Invitation to Participate 2006

Sydney Symposium of Social Psychology

Dear Colleagues,

We would like to invite expressions of interest to participate in our next, Ninth Annual Sydney Symposium of Social Psychology, to be held 14-16th March 2006. These meetings are held every year on a different topic, and bring together leading international researchers (see an attached flyer summarizing past meetings; please also check our website at www.sydneysymposium.unsw.edu.au for details, programs, pictures of past symposia, etc.).

The topic of next year's symposium is 'The evolution of the social mind: evolutionary psychology and social cognition', and our aim is to survey the latest developments in how evolutionary theorizing has influenced research on memory, judgments, decisions and other social cognitive phenomena. This is an exciting and rapidly developing area, and we very much hope that researchers with an interest in this field will apply to participate.

These small group meetings have a reputation of being among the most stimulating, enjoyable and fun conferences in our field - feel free to check with any of the past participants!! If you are interested in participating, please send an abstract of your proposed contribution to JP.Forgas@unsw.edu.au, as soon as possible. We only have a limited number of places, and these may fill up pretty fast, so an early application would be appreciated. Those invited to participate in the meeting will be asked to prepare a draft of their paper by December 31st. Contributions to the symposium will be published in a book form in 2006. We expect to be able to provide a travel subsidy to invited participants to help with expenses of about $ 1000 per contribution.

Thank you for considering this, and we look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards

Joe Forgas, Martie Haselton and Bill von Hippel, Organisers
