25th Sydney Symposium of Social Psychology

3-8 July, 2023, Visegrad, Hungary
THE TRIBAL MIND:
UNDERSTANDING THE PSYCHOLOGY OF COLLECTIVISM

Convened by
Joseph P. Forgas

The conference seeks to bring together researchers who are interested in understanding what social psychology can contribute to our understanding of how human beings manage the inevitable insecurity and uncertainty that has always been part of human social life. We hope to invite researchers working in any area of social psychology that can contribute to our understanding of the nature, functions, origins and psychological and cultural consequences of human insecurity in all its manifestations, and the various evolutionary, psychological, cultural and civilizational strategies humans have invented to manage insecurity. After two years of living with the COVID pandemic, this topic seems particularly interesting and relevant to us.

We believe that most substantive areas of social psychology have an interesting contribution to make to understanding how humans manage insecurity, although this topic is rarely placed in the focus of research, We would like the get contributions from leading international researchers like yourself whose work has some interesting implications for understanding the psychological processes underlying how humans cope with insecurity, including research from areas such as evolutionary psychology, social cognition, social influence, conformity, social norms, group processes and social identity, social motivation, communication, emotionality, power, persuasion, morality and many others. As always the topic is broadly defined and we are interested in contributions from a wide variety of empirical and theoretical backgrounds that can contribute to our understanding of the nature and role of psychological processes in managing insecurity.
